The Charlie Daniels Band Went Down To Iraq
The long haired country boy is a patriot. Performing for various USO tours, the Charlie Daniels Band has entertained troops for the past 35 years. On Tuesday a CD/DVD package of the most recent USO tour to Arifjan, Baghdad, Tallil(Nasiriyah), Taqqadum, Habbinayah, and others was released to show this great experience.
On a side note, through all the examples of Charlie's patriotism, the Pentagon has bestowed him with the Defense Department's top civilian award. This is not only for the numerous USO tours that he has been a part of, but he has also donated about 13,000 instruments to servicemen through the charity that he started called Operation Heartstrings.
Charlie is not the only country artist that has taken pride in entertaining the troops. Country Music and the USO have gone hand in hand since the tour began. Legends such as Hank Williams, Little Jimmy Dickens, and Roy Acuff have performed for the military. It is amazing the patriotism that has been revealed through country music.
