Farming in New York City

It was announced yesterday that New York City will host the annual Farm Aid benefit concert, which Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, and Neil Young co-founded in 1985. According to the official Farm Aid website (www.farmaid.org), the money raised through the benefit concert is used to "help keep family farmers on their land." Farm Aid also supports local farmers' markets. In fact, the announcement to have Farm Aid in NYC was made yesterday at Union Square, which is well-known for having a fresh-produce market.

The concert will be held on September 9th at Randalls Island. New York City, being our nations most populated city, seems like an odd place to have Farm Aid--but I'm sure the concert will be a success and great amounts of money will be raised--because I'm sure Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, Neil Young, and the Dave Matthews Band will draw a huge crowd.
